The Beginning
How Fashion Club came to Be:
The UCSB Fashion Club was founded in fall 2020. Transfer student Cameryn Shaw arrived at UCSB, eager to meet people with similar interests and goals, only to be confronted by COVID-19 and sent back to her hometown. Being faced with this challenge, Cameryn wondered how she would fit into this new community while also online— this led to the creation of the UCSB Fashion Club.
Her deep “passion for fashion” led her to find like-minded people and together, they worked to build the club from the ground up. They created an environment where people can celebrate their love for fashion and an avenue to be expressive within the schools social culture. UCSB Fashion Club’s foundation created a space where Gauchos interested in fashion and creative arts could exchange ideas and form friendships.

What are we currently working on?
As UCSB Fashion Club continues to grow, we are committed to building a creative and inclusive community for all students. We pride ourselves on being a space where like-minded people can learn and grow together. The UCSB Fashion Club aims to educate and inspire students to tap into their creative sides at a school that is often highlighted for its respected STEM programs. The student body at this university and their personal interests are more well-rounded and diverse than people think— we at Fashion Club want to highlight and promote this idea.
In just three short years, UCSB Fashion Club has reached over 2,700 students online and hosted a variety of educational workshops, fundraisers, socials and more. Recently, the Fashion Club took another leap to expand its reach by introducing the UCSB Fashion Club Market and ‘Era Publications’. The UCSB Fashion Club Market hosts local businesses and creatives while also promoting sustainability and community. ‘Era Publications’ is UCSB’s first fashion magazine and a new way for UCSB students to express themselves creatively.
The future
Where is Fashion Club headed?
In the future, UCSB Fashion Club hopes to establish itself as a well-known and respected student group both on campus and in the local Isla Vista/Santa Barbara community. Fashion Club will always be committed to its growth as a space that fosters and encourages self-expression, diversity, sustainability, education, and other creative pursuits.
One major goal the club is striving to achieve in the future is to expand the UCSB Fashion Club network both on and off campus. This will hopefully allow Fashion Club members continue to obtain educational and networking opportunities within the fashion industry.
